City Representatives: Fire Chief Mike Quill, Mayor Elect Tim Lattimore
Agenda Accepted – Minutes from November 3rd Changes: Mr. Plume not Bill Jacobs suggested involving BOCES New Visions & Student Government to assist in Skate Park grant.
Fire Chief Mike Quill attended meeting to update commission on location of ball drop for New Years Eve celebration. Will also provide a fire truck for small children to view.
Mayor Elect – Tim Lattimore sat in on meeting to see for himself the role this commission serves.
Parks Commission Charter Section 1 Article 11-1 – Notes Member appointments 1-3 years, 15 member commission.
Commission will need a way to display photos or posters for June visits to elementary & middle schools. These visits will remind children to utilize the various parks in the summer to come and make them aware of the special events planned. The existing display made of plywood is too big, warped from exposure, and a safety hazard. Please advise….
Chris Bennett-Collins will work with various school officials to provide school time for these visits.
Commission reminds Park Dept. that Essay Contest for Soap-Box Derby is Feb. 13th – Please contact Donna Johnson @ 253-2991 to help with reading of essays – You’ll also need to contact other retired teachers to help read the essays.
The City will provide 2 employees on site for New Years Eve Celebration at Casey Park.
Ice skates are sharpened as needed
Signage at all parks and playgrounds will be in place April 2004
REMINDER - FREE increased advertising of parks events, movies, music and more completed pamphlets – Adelphia Channel 4 & 6 is FREE – Community events in Post Standard & Citizen is FREE – Web Site should already exist with upcoming events maintained – This years pamphlets should have complete schedules of music & movies in the parks as well as any cool events planned at the various playgrounds for 2004 season.
Benton Street Playground – Has been turned over to Codes Office
Syracuse Crunch – Because of ticket commitment doesn’t look like City wants to be involved – they recommend the Hockey Club take this one on.
Mike Long or City is not taking on a grant to improve the skate park at this time.
St. Francis and Pomeroy Park funds of $80,000 – what is status now that Jim Galvin will be leaving? Community meeting, playground equipment?
Wadsworth Riverfront Property: No plans for development at this time.
St. Francis pavilion – Fence is being removed and guardrails will be installed.
Renting Fees for various City owned parks will be in place for 2004 season. Fees will be a management decision.
Cost Structures for Hockey Teams are not negotiated with commission.
Ice at Hoopes Pond – due to running water under the ice there are limitations to live with on this matter.
